John Aruldass and Mr Nuthakki Dileep Kumar, Partners-in-Mission, Good Shepherd Convent, Amaravathi, Andhra Pradesh, India (Province of <\/em><em>Central East India and Nepal)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To mark the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/world-day-against-child-labour\">la Journ\u00e9e mondiale contre le travail des enfants<\/a> on June 12, and as a part of the Congregation\u2019s ongoing campaign against child labor \u2013 which remains prevalent in the region \u2013 sisters and partners-in-mission organized a rally in <a href=\"https:\/\/palnadu.ap.gov.in\/\">Palnadu District<\/a> of Andhra Pradesh, India.<\/p>\n<p>As many as <strong>168 people<\/strong> took part in the event, including NGO staff, <a href=\"https:\/\/wcd.nic.in\/integrated-child-development-services-icds-scheme\">Integrated Child Development Services<\/a> (ICDS) staff, government officials, National Cadet Corps students, scouts, child development project officers, child protection officers, members of the press, and many girls, women, and children who engage with our OLCGS ministries.<\/p>\n<p>Speeches made at the event by local politicians and government officials made special mention of the <strong>remarkable commitment<\/strong> of the sisters to the girls, women, and children in the region during the past 28 years.<\/p>\n<p>In the opening speech, local politician Mr Shyam Prasad stressed how all adults are responsible for ensuring that children living in their area between 4 years to 18 years old attend school.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869.jpeg 2560w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-300x141.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-1024x483.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-768x362.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-1536x724.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-2048x966.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/wwwtest.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Main_ed-1-scaled-e1719412793869-18x8.jpeg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the rally \u2013 which marched from the courthouse to the Zilla Parishad High School \u2013 participants <strong>raised banners<\/strong> et <strong>chanted slogans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This event took place during a \u2018<em>month against child labor\u2019<\/em> campaign that the police department and local authority carried out in the district, which involved police teams visiting local small businesses to check if they employ children.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the awareness-raising efforts of this campaign, Sr Madhalai Vinnarasi, Good Shepherd Community Development Initiatives Director, Sr Gracy, Sub-site Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/chaliceus.org\/\">CHALICE<\/a> Child and Community and Child Sponsorship Programme, and partners-in-mission working at the Good Shepherd Convent were involved in the launch of a <strong>new poster campaign<\/strong> on June 11.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Poster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"354\" \/>These posters have been displayed in public buildings and areas in and around Amaravathi to <strong>raise awareness<\/strong> among the general public on the issue of child labor and the role they can play in preventing it.<\/p>\n<p>Even despite strict laws in India that make child labor a crime, it remains prevalent due to a lack of awareness among poverty-stricken families and unethical employers. However, we were very happy to see that parents \u2013 despite whatever financial difficulties they face \u2013 understand the <strong>importance of education<\/strong> for their children.<\/p>\n<p>The number of girls enrolled at school has never been so high. We must strengthen this spirit and ensure that the rights for the <strong>protection<\/strong>, <strong>development<\/strong>, et <strong>participation of children<\/strong> must be ensured at all costs and at all levels.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the theme of this year\u2019s World Day Against Child Labor \u2013 <em>Let\u2019s Act on Our Commitments: End Child Labor!<\/em> \u2013 we must all become aware of our duty to work for the rights of children and be committed to ensuring their wellbeing and safeguarding.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mr A.
